New Faculty Orientation

UCO orients new faculty to their new community of teacher-scholars, to the campus, and to most of UCO’s operational units and functions during a day when information about these groups and processes is shared, either in person or via short video clips. Typically, the Monday of the week of the Teaching and Learning Institute is when our new faculty orientation occurs.

As with the T&L Institute, Orientation occurs in the Center for Transformative Learning Building, and we work to make the day a pleasant introduction and not an overwhelming tsunami of information about our campus’ many resources and personnel focused specifically on helping faculty in their multiple roles as teacher-scholars.

A major component of Orientation is the connection with a UCO faculty member not in the new instructor’s college. Our Mentoring Program seeks to build cross-campus connections which can provide a different perspective in collegial conversation, a friendly colleague with whom to share ideas and ask questions, and a resource for information about institution-wide policies and activities.

Included in information provided shortly after hire, new faculty receive an electronic packet with official welcome letters from Provost and CETTL Executive Director plus information about Orientation and the T&L Institute and additional resources, including:
